Sharing Your Account Information
What you need to know about sharing your account information with third parties.
Our Approach
We fully support our customers' access to their financial data and use of the financial applications of their choice, while protecting their personal and financial information.
We’re constantly investing in new technologies to help our customers achieve their financial goals in the safest way possible. That’s why we’ve established a secure data sharing method through our Application Programming Interface (API), which enables you to link your financial information without having to share log-in credentials. This allows you to grant permission to financial apps to access your online banking accounts and retrieve data.
About Our API
Our API is built to Financial Data Exchange (FDX) standards and is available to all third-party data aggregators and financial apps who meet these same industry standards.
By linking your financial information to an external third party through PNC’s secure API, you'll be able to select which accounts to share, understand what type of data is being shared, and revoke access through the Control Hub in the PNC Mobile app[1].
Most importantly, this connection method does not require you to share your online banking user ID and password with third parties.
How Do I Connect My Accounts?
When a financial app, or other service, allows you to link your PNC account, they typically use a third-party vendor to establish, gather and aggregate your data.
Using Our API
- From the third party financial app, you’ll be prompted to sign on through a PNC connection.
- PNC will prompt you to verify your identity with a one-time passcode.
- Review PNC's data sharing permissions and Terms and Conditions, check the agreement box if you agree, then select Continue.
- Select which PNC account(s) to share with the app.
- After you grant permission, we’ll share the permissioned account information and you’ll be routed back to the financial app.
- At any time, you can review and remove connections through the PNC Control Hub: sign in to the PNC Mobile app, select Control Hub, then select Apps with Access. You can remove individual accounts or select Remove All Accounts to remove everything.
Providing Your Login Credentials
While our preferred method is to link with our secure API, for some applications, you may need to give your credentials directly to a third party to use their service.
Accounts linked through this method won’t appear in the PNC Mobile app Control Hub. If you want to stop sharing data with an app connected this way, you will need to change your Online Banking password.
For Mobile Payment Apps & Services
With Zelle® , you don’t need to share any additional information to send and receive money with people and businesses you know and trust, because Zelle® is built into the PNC Mobile app, and Zelle® works directly with PNC and other participating banks.
For other payment apps like Venmo or Cash App, you can send and receive payments without sharing your login credentials. You can do this by manually entering your credit, debit or account and routing numbers.
These apps also may request additional ID verification such as a driver's license, state ID, or military ID.
These apps may send microtransfers (typically less than $1 each) to your account to verify ownership – this will include two small withdrawals and deposits that appear in your account. You’ll visit the app or app’s website to enter these transaction amounts and verify your account.
Accounts linked through this method won’t appear in the Control Hub in the PNC Mobile app.
Make Sure Your Connection Is Secure
- A sign on screen that redirects to secure.pnc.com
- After connecting, the app appears in the Apps With Access section of the PNC Mobile app
- The app’s privacy policy should outline the third parties used to link accounts
