Done Deal: Hambledon Vineyard

A Smooth Outcome

A row of Hambledon Vineyard wine barrels.

The Company: Revered Internationally

Established in 1952, Hampshire based Hambledon Vineyard (Hambledon) has received many prestigious awards over its near 70-year history. Producing its sparkling wine from the classic grape varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, its chalk soils share an ancestry with the best Chardonnay areas of the Côtes des Blancs in Champagne. Winner of the famous Noble Rot tasting, and once served by Her Majesty the Queen to President Pompidou during a reception.

The Deal: Long-Term Outlook

Hambledon is England’s oldest commercial vineyard and has invested in state-of-the-art facilities in its recent history, notably building the UK’s only gravity-fed winery. Recognising a need to extend the scope of its finance options, Hambledon looked to PNC’s sector expertise to support them in embracing the flexibility and long-term outlook that assetbased lending offers.

The Achievement: A Smooth Outcome

The new facility delivers not only the headroom for further growth and investment, but also supports Hambledon’s passion in producing some of the finest, fully mature, sparkling wines that compete with the best producers across the world.

PNC Deal Leader: Jason Zillwood

The recommendation we received from a colleague in our industry to contact the team at PNC has proved to be very insightful. I have been involved with the finance world for 30 years and I am delighted at what PNC has delivered. We had approached a number of asset-based lenders, but PNC stood out in demonstrating both a mastery of stock-based lending and an in-depth understanding of our sector. The deal process was both smooth and rigorous and what we received initially as an indication was the deal that was undertaken. Achieving this outcome completely in lockdown deserves great praise.
