The Company: Kent Quality

Situated on the low lying slopes of an ancient Kentish escarpment at Appledore, Gusbourne Estate (Gusbourne) is a leading producer of high-quality English sparkling and still wines. Cultivating 3 classic varieties of grape, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, Gusbourne has received many accolades and awards, including three time winner of the International Wine and Spirit Competition ‘English Wine Producer of the Year’ and winning ‘Best Sparkling Wine’, ‘Best Still Wine’ and overall ‘Star of England’ at the inaugural Harpers Wine Stars of England competition, 2018.

The Deal: Sparking Knowledge

Asset Based Lending has been part of the funding fabric for wine production around the world for some time. Gusbourne had been looking at the potential of ABL for their business and this research, together with a strong recommendation from industry colleagues, led them to find a knowledgeable finance partner much closer to home.

The Achievement: Liquid Liquidity

The new facility from PNC aligns closely with the long term working capital needs of the business and sows the seeds for further development of its exceptional products through new markets and channels.

PNC Deal Leader: Jason Zillwood

We approached a few funders, but it quickly became obvious that PNC were in a class of their own. They have a great track record in our industry which was evident from the very outset of the deal process. Very reactive with a thorough understanding of our business. It takes four years to bring a vineyard into full production and a further 4 years to transform these grapes into Gusbourne’s premium sparkling wine. PNC instinctively understood our issues and pinch points through that journey and they simply put the best offer on the table. They are a pleasure to deal with.
